What Ivan Perisic to Bayern Munich means for Man City and Leroy Sane – Manchester Evening News

Bayern Munich have moved to sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic after seeing Leroy Sane ruled out for at least six months.

The Bundesliga champions have been chasing the Manchester City winger all summer, annoying Blues bosses with their very public pursuit of a player they believe can take up the baton from Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Days after having an enormous price-tag on his head and days before the transfer window closed, Sane suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage in his right knee and is expected to be out for at least six months. He will have surgery soon in Barcelona before beginning his rehabiliation.

Bayern’s decision to sign Perisic on a season-long loan with an option to buy will go some way to filling the hole that Sane could have done if a move had been completed but is unlikely to deter further interest.

Niko Kovac is still looking to strengthen a position that also includes Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman.

There remains talk, although highly improbable, that they could make a bid for Sane before the German transfer window closes on September 2 as a show of faith but more realistic is a return for the 23-year-old over the next 12 months.

Unless Sane signs a new contract at the Etihad, which Pep Guardiola was not optimistic about before the Community Shield, he will have just a year remaining on his contract next summer and any permanent move for Perisic to the Allianz Arena is not expected to affect Bayern knocking at City’s door again.
